Jeremy Scott strikes once again to land another big pot

Trainer Jeremy Scott who saddled Golden Ace to victory at the Cheltenham Festival recently, bagged another high profile race after Joe Cotton landed the Class 2 Chase Series Final at Fontwell on Friday afternoon.

The £20,000 first prize went to the seven-year-old who has been so consistent this season, having been placed in all seven starts since his last success twelve months ago for the Dulverton yard, but first-time blinkers proved effective in the 2m3½f contest and he saw off favourite Good Friday Fairy by a length.

“I’m particularly delighted as he’s been frustratingly consistent without winning,” said Scott. “For the owners I was thrilled that the headgear seemed to make a difference. It was a valuable race and if he had to pull it out of the fire one day, today wasn’t a bad day for it.”

Boston Boy received an encouraging boost when he claimed a first win under Jonjo O’Neill Jr in the 2m1½f maiden hurdle, having dropped down in trip.

The six-year-old had run out at the second-last in two of his last four starts but was a more professional operator this time, battling past Kalif D’Airy to win by half a length.

Trainer Chris Gordon has been going through a lean spell of late, but perhaps the tide will now start turning for the Winchester trainer after Summer In Milan took the opening race on the card.

Reverting back to hurdles, under Charlie Case the six-year-old pulled clear to win by eight lengths in the hands and Heels race for conditional and amateur jockeys.

Barry Brennan was celebrating a rare winner when Fine Investment won the 2m 5 ½ furlongs 0handicap chase.

Along with Design Flaw, the pair quickly drew well clear of the field, at one stage a fully 25 lengths clear.

The field began to start reeling in the pair, but Design Flaw responded by running on nicely to win by 1 ½ lengths.
