On what turned out to be the hottest day of the year, leading rider in the jockey’s championship Oisin Murphy was booked for five rides at the Sunbury track, but had to forgo the rides due to illness.

One of those rides was taken up by nearest challenger Rossa Ryan who managed a double on the afternoon’s card.

The first leg of the double went to Ryan aboard the unraced Likely Perspective for Richard Hughes who led over 1f out before keeping on to get the better of Neoma by a length.

Another unraced horse Amiloc was sent off the 11-10 favourite and duly obliged under Ryan to prevail by a neck from Zou’s Your Daddy after making virtually all.

The opening nursery handicap over a mile went to the Sean Woods trained Lazieelunch, who ran on well inside the final furlong to see off the challenge of Matharu.

In form trainer David Menuisier made it five winners from the last 14 after Tribal Chief took the 1m handicap for three-year-olds, after running on well to lead inside the final furlong.

There was yet another close finish in the fourth race on the card, a 7f restricted maiden stakes for unraced colts and geldings, when Kaytwo provided a welcome winner for Newmarket trainer Amy Murphy with Silvestra De Sousa getting the gelding’s head in front by a head.

Alpen Power was back on the surface that he relishes with the long trip down from Middlehan proving successful for trainer Charlie Johnson after the three-year-old held off the threat of Caprelo to win by a neck at odds of 15-2.
