Kempton’s midweek Wednesday night meeting was a successful one for jockey Saffie Osborne who bought up a double on the night by riding Tayala and Many A Star to victory.

It was also a winning double on the night for youngster Billy Loughnane who rode Mbappe and Sir Les Patterson to get first past the post.

Osborne’s first of her double went to the three-year-old Tayala in the 7f fillies handicap. The horse was making her handicap debut, but despite being off for 158 days, Osborne managed to get the horses head in front to win by half a length.

Thirty minutes later the popular lady rider was celebrating another winner in the winners enclosure when Many A Star had to defy a penalty to win the 6f handicap under top weight from One More Wave.

18-year-old Loughnane steered the aptly  Mbappe to victory in the 7f handicap. Just 24 hours after the human version of the name starred for PSG in the Champions League by bragging a brace, the animal version of the name was a surprise winner at the odds of 33-1 for his father Mark.

It wasn’t long before the youngster bought his double on the night by ridding Sir Les Patterson to victory in the 7f novice stakes, but only just. It was a very tight finish to the race with Loughnane just getting up on the line by the narrowest of victory by a neck from Smart Hero.

There was also another close finish on the night in the opener when Kind Of Blue on his racecourse debut- under Danny Muscutt got the better of the fast finishing favourite Not Real by a nose for trainer James Fanshawe.
