Irish trainer Joseph Patrick O’Brien’s decision to send One Number across from Ireland was vindicated when the two-year-old comfortably saw of his seven rivals to land the 1m Class 3 maiden stakes at Lingfield Park on Thursday.

The American Colt out of Jack Christopher was making his debut on the all weather surface and for the first time wearing cheeckpieces.

Under David Probert he had the horse relaxed early on to go on and make all unchallenged to win comfortably by four and a half lengths and bring up a double for the welshman.

Half an hour earlier Probert had steered Birkacre Brow to victory in the opener on the card.

The switch to the all weather has benefited the novice after finishing second over C&D just last week.

Birkacre Brow went one better after taking the lead turning into the straight and winning by a length from Inglewood.

Owner Debbie Turner was a happy lady after celebrating her first win as an owner when Whitesnake bolted up in the 1m handicap.

The lightly raced four-year-old finished third to subsequent winners on both her last outings.

Stepping up in trip, and from a poor draw, the filly under Jason Watson chased the leader before drawing clear over 1f out to score comfortably by two and three quarter lengths for Roger Teal.

Fuseboard backed up his win at Wolverhampton in a classified stakes 44 days ago by taking the 6f handicap under Joey Haynes for Chelsea Banham.

The form of the race at Wolves has worked out well with the second winning recently. Back up to 6f didn’t faze the gelding who held off the late challenge of Royal County Glory.

There was a big upset in the lucky last when 25-1 shot Whizzy Dizzy got up to deny the 5-2 favourite Fiorella Princess on the line by a short head after switching to the outside to give Clive Cox his 7th winner in the last 14 days.
