Jockey Hollie Doyle went into today’s meeting at Goodwood on 998 overall winners in her career. By 3.40 in the afternoon she had reached that exclusive landmark of 1,000 winners.

Doyle, 27, achieved the landmark success when partnering Leyhaimur in the 6f nursery, after completing a 53-1 double after earlier scoring on 8-1 shot Almaty Star in the 5f handicap.

The 27-year-olds 1,000 winner was a more comfortable winner than her first success back at Salisbury on the 5th May 2013 when a young 16 year old rode The Mongoose to victory in a lady riders handicap.

“When I started my career, never did I imagine I’d ride this many winners,” Doyle told Racing TV. “I’m really grateful for all the support I’ve had from trainers, owners and my agent, who has done a great job for me so far. I’m probably a nightmare to work with, but now all I can think about is the next 1,000!”

Doyle has ridden 39 Group and Listed winners in Britain, with her first top-level success coming onboard Glen Shiel for Archie Watson in the 2020 Champions Sprint Stakes at Ascot.

Earlier in the day, win number 999 was brought up when Doyle steered the outsider of the four runners Almaty Star to victory from Angle Land to give in form trainer Robert Cowell a 1-2 in the race.

There was a also a double on the card for trainer James Fanshawe who saddled 20-1 shot Glittering Legend to take the opener before landing the 2m Royal Sussex Regiment Handicap with bottom weight East India Dock.
