HEROIC RECYCLING AWARDS RETURN TO WOKING

HEROIC RECYCLING AWARDS RETURN TO WOKING

Everyday recycling heroes at the ready! The Recycle for Woking Awards has returned for the third consecutive year, which aims to showcase and celebrate the heroic recycling behaviours of local residents, groups and organisations.

Nominations for the Recycle for Woking Awards are open, so don’t delay; tell us about your recycling heroes today! Nominations can be received for the following five categories:

Greenest School of the Year

Does your school run recycling projects or initiatives to improve and promote recycling? If yes, tell us and your school could win this coveted award.

Recycling Hero

The big one! Awarded to the individual who has excelled at improving recycling in their area. They may have offered advice, helped neighbours or worked with the Council and/or managing agents to improve recycling facilities.

Super Volunteer

Celebrate the unsung hero of recycling! This is awarded to the individual or group who has volunteered their time to promote recycling to the community.

Collection Crew of the Year

Come rain or shine, collection crews are out collecting your waste and recycling. Show them your appreciation by telling us why they should be crowned Collection Crew of the Year.

Residential Recycling Leaders

New for 2016, the Residential Recycling Leaders category is to recognise groups (e.g. managing agents, carers, clubs, interest groups, independent living services, etc.) actively striving to improve recycling by using Woking Borough Council’s recycling services, and arranging for the Council to conduct talks and/or provide further information to maximise recycling.

In 2014 Woking Borough Council launched the ‘Everyday Heroes’ campaign to highlight the ongoing battle against everyday waste, which can be recycled and saved from expensive landfill sites. Since then the campaign has continued to demonstrate to residents that recycling saves money and also highlights how easy it is to recycle on a daily basis, using the range of kerbside collection services available.

Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environmental Services, said: “The Recycling for Woking Awards is a marvellous way to celebrate the contributions that local people make to maximise the levels of recycling within the Borough. It is their hard work and commitment that has helped Woking to become one of the top performing waste collection authorities within the UK.

“So, if there is a recycling superhero on your doorstep, be it a managing agent, neighbour, family member, school, student, or collection crew, I would urge you to submit your nomination today in order to reward them for their valiant efforts.”

Nominations close at midnight on Friday 29 July 2016. To submit an online nomination and to find out more about the Recycle for Woking Awards, visit www.woking.gov.uk/recycleforwokingawards   or email waste@woking.gov.uk
