Earlier in the afternoon, there was a shock in the opener when the 40-1 shot Clinton Lane got the better of the well fancied long odds on shot All Authorised by half a length under conditional jockey Fergus Gillard for his dad to win at the ninth attempt.

Fergus Gillard was confident of an improved run from Clinton Lane, but said after the race that the wind op that the horse had recently had helped him massively.

The Evan Williams trained Mumbles continued his impressive form on testing ground when landing the 2m 3f handicap hurdle.

The six-year-old has now had two wins two second placed finishes on his last four starts on heavy ground.

Trainer Oliver Signy confirmed his love for Fontwell Park when he saddled The Scorpion King to victory in the 2m and 3 and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase under Gavin Sheehan.

Signy has now had 8 winners out of 23 runners at the Sussex course, a strike rate of 27%. The six-year-old got the better of top weight Mister Murchan to win by four lengths for owners Adam and Clare Signy.
