Honours on The Care For Veterans Raceday at Plumpton on Monday went to trainer Joe Tizzard and jockey Brendan Powell, with the pair teaming up with a double at the Sussex track.

The wonderfully named I Shut That D’or took the second race on the card the 2m 3f handicap chase under Powell who  kept on well up the straight to win by a length and a half from top weight Theonlywayiswessex.

Last year , Tizzard saddled West End Boy to win the 2m Handicap Hurdle race. Twelve months later the Sherborne trainer repeated this feat with the five-year-old Non Stop who led at the last to go on and win cosily by five and a half lengths.

The feature race of the day The Care For Veterans Charity Handicap Hurdle race was won by the Paul Nicholls trained Irish Hill with Harry Cobden aboard.

Along with the top weight Mark Of Gold, the pair were locked together heading into the last, but a fine jump from Irish Hill gave him the advantage to go on and win gamely by a length.

Finally, apprentice Tristan Durrell had something to smile about after having waited 89 rides since his last win.

Aboard Sacre Coeur for the all conquering Skelton yard, The three pound claimer took the 3m 1 and a half furlong handicap chase after her nearest challenger Scamallach Liath for Harry Derham fell at the last to hand victory to the mare by 20 lengths.

Derham, had better luck in the opener when the odds on shot Barrabool saw off his two rivals to land the 2m maiden hurdle.

It wasn’t all plain sailing for the four-year-old filly who had to be shaken up approaching the last to win by five and a half lengths from Basilette.

It was a winning ride for Paul O’Brien who along with Derham has seen the combination rack up 51 winners.

Despite a  blunder at the last, Prince Imperial defied a double penalty to take the 2m 4f novices hurdle under apprentice Beau Morgan.
