IRE Incentive Raceday at Newbury on Friday afternoon saw the temperatures nudge 30 degrees Celsius on a sweltering hot day.
The main race of the day The IRE-Incentive-Pays To Buy Irish Rose Bowl Stakes- a Class 1 6f handicap was won by the Richard Spencer trained Yah Mo Be There under Jamie Spencer.
Despite leaving the stalls slowly, the colt showed an impressive turn of foot to pull clear and go on and win by one and a quarter lengths from Jungle Dreams.
The horse showed bundles of ability when a short head second on debut at York in May, but was well behind Symbol Of Honour in the Coventry at Royal Ascot.
The winning trainer said after the race “All year we’ve been holding him in high regard and he’s only going to be better going up in trip, and next year.”
Richard Hannon sent nine horses to the Berkshire track, eventually bringing up a double through Linwood and Great Bedwyn.
Linwood looks another promising two-year-old for the Marlborough handler after improving on his debut run finishing fourth at Salisbury.
That run was over six furlongs with todays extra mile suiting the horse who went on to win nicely by one and three quarter lengths.
Hannon, had to wait until the last race on the card to bring up the double when the four-year-old under Pat Dobbs took the 1m 4f handicap.
West Country trainer Stuart Kittow made a round trip of 226 miles from his Cullompton yard in Devon and it was certainly worth it when Sunny Corner won the opener with Rossa Ryan aboard who was making it three wins from four starts.
Ed Walker’s two-year-old Troia made a winning debut in the 6f maiden fillies stakes Div 11 under Tom Marquand. The filly by Kingman was always travelling well and went on to win by a length from Montrachet Girl.
