It was a day of contrasting fortunes for trainers Roger Teal and Jamie Osborne at Lingfield Park on Wednesday afternoon, with both looking for a double on the card.
Hierarchy under William Carver looked to have done enough to get the better of the Teal trained Whenthedealinsdone after swooping past the seven-year-old to win by one and a half lengths, only to find after entering the winners enclosure with Carver who recently lost his claim, going to weigh in without his weight cloth.
Immediately there was an objection by the clerk of the scales, with a stewards enquiry announced.
After a short while the announcement came through that the result had been revised with Whenthedealinsdone placed 1st and Hierarchy demoted to 2nd place due to Carver weighing in 4.5lb below his slated weight of 9st 9lb.
The winner was found to have run without the weight cloth – which was later found in the stable post-race. Osborne was fined £1,500 after Hierarchy was found to have carried the incorrect weight.
The winner was found to have run without the weight cloth – which was later found in the stable post-race – and was disqualified, with the Roger Teal-trained Whenthedealinsdone placed first.
The stewards’ report read: “The trainer’s representative explained that Hierarchy had been saddled in the stables on this occasion and, having placed the weight cloth in the corner of the stable, had subsequently failed to place the weight cloth on the horse as a consequence of the gelding being tricky to saddle.
“Hierarchy was disqualified and the placings were revised. The trainer received a fine of £1,500.”
The result meant that Deal came away from the course with a double from his two runners after taking the opener with Ellexis at 12-1.
Course specialist Mick’s Spirit made it eight wins over course and distance when making all under Darragh Keenan at odds of 25-1 in the 5f handicap for Newmarket trainer Conrad Allen.
On a day of big priced winners, Lady Manor got off the mark at the second attempt after picking up nicely and pulling clear to win by 3 ¾ lengths for Amanda Perrett with a starting price of 28-1.
Although losing out to Whenthedealinsdone, Jamie Snowdon at least had a winner to celebrate earlier in the day when Antiquity came from last to first with a flying finish to pip Jonny Garlic to the post under a super ride from Hayley Turner.
