Blenheim Star follows up Ripon victory of four days ago for in form trainer Knight

In form Newmarket trainer William Knight continued his impressive strike rate by saddling Blenheim Star to win the one mile handicap for three-year-olds at Brighton on Monday afternoon.

Knight, who currently has a 33per cent strike rate, decided to run the horse again just four days after winning at Ripon. The decision was justified with the filly getting up to win under Cieren Fallon by three quarters of a length from Red Cloud, despite a 6lb penalty.

Mutamanni fully justified her long odds on price of 4-9 with a comfortable victory in the 5f maiden for three-year-olds.

The gelding with Jim Crowley aboard soon took a very early lead and was never headed despite a late challenge from outsider Big Time Rascal for the stable of Paul and Oliver Cole.

The old saying is we do like to be beside the seaside and one horse who certainly loves the course is Shalfa. The Lydia Richards trained mare has now won three times at the Sussex course with the latest success over 1m 2f with Rhys Clutterbuck in the saddle.

The five-year-old was having the benefit of a recent spin over hurdles at Plumpton three weeks ago and led all the way to record a three quarters of a length victory over another course specialist Uncle Dick.

Elsewhere on the card in the opener, Cropthorne trainer Tony Carroll saddled three of the nine runners in the opener, with Kondratiev Wave getting his head over the line under up and coming apprentice Jack Doughty.
