Billy The Kid – Riverbank

Billy The Kid

Canadian songwriter Billy the Kid recently released her fourth album ‘Horseshoes & Hand Grenades’ through Xtra Mile Recordings, as well as playing a few low key dates around the country in August and September. She followed that up with a support slot on Billy Bragg’s North American tour and will be returning in November as support to Against Me! on their UK headline dates as well as a stint supporting Northcote in the UK in November.

To celebrate Billy’s forthcoming return to the country, the label have announced album tracks ‘Riverbank’ and ‘This Sure As Hell Ain’t My Life’ (aptly a duet with Frank Turner, who produced Billy’s latest album) as a special double A-side single release in December.

Of ‘Riverbank’ she says “Sometimes you meet people on the road or people who also do this road thing and inevitably, you get talking about road stuff. One of the road things you sometimes talk about is the feeling of being strangely at home when you’re not, and somehow, not at all at home when you are. It brings me great comfort to know I am not the only person who feels like this. In those moments when it’s happening, you really feel like you are the only person who feels like this.” And of ‘This Sure As Hell…’, Billy says Frank came up with the idea of it being a duet. Originally, I was singing all the parts. I’m so glad he suggested it cause I was certainly too chicken shit to ask him to sing on the record. I was secretly hoping it would happen though. Production-wise this is another favourite of mine because at times it reminds me of Ryan Adams albums I love.”
