Rossa Ryan takes the honours on day of shocks at Lingfield

Jockey Rossa Ryan took the honours at Lingfield on Wednesday after completing a quick-fire double when Uncle Nader and Far To Fizzy provided Ryan with his first winners of the year.

With the aid of the rail, Ryan came through the inside to steer Uncle Nader to victory in the 1m handicap for trainer Jack Jones.

Far Too Fizzy had been knocking on the door after two encouraging runs at Wolverhampton. Leading from the front, the three-year-old scored comfortably by five and a half lengths.

The horse looks a sprinter to follow for the Dave Loughnane-trained yard after winning for the second time in his short career.

The 5f handicap saw a close finish between Manhattan Chute and Desdemona, with Sean Levey getting the 50-1 shot Manhattan Chute up on the line to win by a head.

The four-year-old had beaten just four rivals in four starts for Jim and Suzi Best since arriving from Michael O’Callaghan’s yard in Ireland, where he obtained a mark of 88 without winning.

Levey had ridden Manhattan Chute in all but one of his British starts and said the strong early pace was the catalyst for the son of Vadamos being able to break his maiden at the 15th attempt.

“I didn’t think five furlongs was his trip but they went so quick, they fell back in his lap,” the rider told Sky Sports Racing. “I rode him over five last time and he had headgear on and I couldn’t lay up. I was a length behind the last horse pulling up and he just struggled the whole way around.

“We took the headgear off and he’s dealt with lesser horses this time around. They’ve gone really strong and I was in the same sort of predicament, albeit I was attached this time. It’s all about sustainability and fractional times – there was a huge pace collapse and he’s shown he has stamina.”

Manhattan Chute was not the only big-priced winner on the card as Myna landed the 1m2f classified stakes at 25-1 for Jason Watson and All Weather specialist Tony Carroll, having been off the course for 120 days and winning at the 17th attempt on the flat.

Former CD winner Rising Force added another Lingfield success to his CV after landing the 1m amateur jockeys handicap for Newmarket trainer Darryll Holland.

Nicola Currie has an excellent strike rate when riding for Andrew Balding and that was maintained after steering Allegrino to a one and a half length success in the 7f novice stakes.
