Nicky Henderson notched a century of track winners with Quay Item’s impressive win in the 2m 4½f maiden hurdle, the opening race of January Jumps Raceday on Monday.

The Middleham Park Racing owned six-year-old was building on his NH debut at Doncaster a couple of months ago when he finished third.

Under Nico de Boinville, the gelding was always travelling well and pulled clear of Catch On Me at the last flight to score by six and a half lengths and break his maiden tag at the fourth time of asking under rules.

Local trainer Gary Moore bagged a quick fire double on the card after taking the final two races of the afternoon.

After a couple of disappointing runs, Lumi Plugin benefited by going up in trip to take the 3m 1f handicap chase under Caoilin Quinn.

Quinn teamed up with Moore to take the finale on the card after Our Papa Smurf made all and held on gamely to get the better of Kill The Groove.

The feature race of the day the Southern Cranes Handicap Hurdle ended in a thrilling finish with both Sean Bowen and Tom Queally involved in an epic finish with Bowen just getting up to fend off the challenge of flat jockey Queally by three quarters of a length on Good To Be Alive.

Jack Andrews rode out his claim with his 75th professional winner on Tankardstown Diva in the 3m1f mares’ handicap hurdle for trainer Tom Ellis.

It was a welcome win for Andrews who had been stuck on 74 winners since Boxing Day.

Eddie My Eagle lowered the colours of Derby runner-up Ambiente Friendly when soaring to a first win in the 2m novice hurdle.

The Dan Horsford-trained six-year-old had been second in two of his three starts under rules, but got his breakthrough when going clear of even-money favourite Looping D’Arc by a length and a half under Philip Armson.

Trainer Daisy Hitchins made it two winners in the space of 72 hours after bottom weight Sea Thrift made all under claimer Robbie David to win by three and a quarter lengths from Superstylin in the 2m handicap chase.
