Kielan Woods, who is booked to ride Marble Sands in the Grand National on Saturday, was taken to hospital after a fall in the 2m3f handicap hurdle.
The jockey was riding the Nick Scholfield-trained Mammies Boy but was unseated at the sixth flight and appeared to be kicked by the following Galactic Charm.
Scholfield said: “I’ve been in touch with Kielan and he’s gone for a precautionary check at Chichester hospital. He was sore in the pelvis area after being kicked, but hopefully it’s not too bad. He seemed in good spirits and, as far as I know, it’s nothing very serious.”
Woods has previously partnered the David Killahena and Graeme McPherson-trained Marble Sands at the Grand National festival, finishing sixth in the Sefton Novices’ Hurdle in 2023 and 12th in last year’s Topham Handicap Chase over the National fences.
The race was won by Lyle View, Neil Mulholland producing an excellent training performance to have the mare ready after 429 days off the track.
The six-year-old had won on her previous start at Southwell in February last year and made a successful return under Richie McLernon to win by four lengths from Duffry Trixs.
The J.P McManus colours were carried to success in the opening 2m 3f maiden hurdle after the odds on shot Hardly Surprising prevailed under Bryan Carver for Harry Fry by two and a quarter lengths.
Rarely does local joint trainers Gary & Josh Moore leave Plumpton empty handed and today wasn’t going to be one of those rare days after Rip Wheeler pulled away from Maclaine to take the 2m 5 ½ f handicap chase with Robert Dunne in the saddle.
After riding out her claim on Monday, Tabitha Worsley was back in the winners enclosure again after partnering Tommy Dillion to victory in the finale on the card.
