Woking sign Richard Orlu from Dover Athletic as Anthony Limbrick secures first deal


RICHARD ORLU has become Anthony Limbrick’s first signing as Woking manager, as the Cards prepare for another season in the Vanarama National League.

Orlu, 28, made 133 appearances for Dover all in competitions after impressing on trial at Crabble in the summer of 2013, and has played against Woking on several occasions.

However, the former England C defender has swapped jerseys, and joins Woking on a one-year deal, on the same day that Dover have announced that he was on the club’s retained list.

Orlu started off his career at Staines Town before moving to Farnborough in December 2011, and after six months with the Hampshire side, he joined Canvey Island at the start of the 2012/13 season.

After a season playing in the Ryman Premier League with Canvey, where he earned six ‘Man of the Match’ performances in six games, Orlu got the opportunity to trial at Dover Athletic.

He took the chance with both hands, and signed in August 2013 after impressive the management team in Kent.

Orlu then helped the Whites gain promotion into the National League in his first season, and then played 45 games in 2014/15 as Dover secured their status for another season.

The defender, who can play anywhere across the back four, also played a huge part in Dover’s play-off pushes in the following two seasons, playing 44 games in 2015/16 and 37 games last season.

He will add valuable experience to the Woking backline, which consisted of youngsters Terell Thomas and Joey Jones last season.

Jones had an eye for goal, scoring four goals last season. That is definitely not Orlu’s biggest strength, who’s last goal came in the 3-1 win against Barrow in November 2015.

This will be one of many new signings for new Woking boss Limbrick, with the former Southampton and West Ham youth coach looking to build his defence around Terell Thomas, who has just been released by Chartlon Athletic.
