Westfield manager Dan Snare urges that his players are to finish the season strong after they drew to strugglers Horley Town in a 1-1 battle on a cold and windy night at Woking Park.
The Woking based side were left feeling frustrated as they let a slim 1-0 lead slip from their grasps, as they conceding on the brink of half time. This draw means it’s going to be a tough ask for a 10th place finish, something manager Snare and his coaching staff were hoping for.
“I thought it was a game we should have won, we started well but got caught into a long ball game which isn’t our game. But we did improve in the second half and it showed as they (Horley Town) were scrapping for the points, but overall it was a frustrating night.” Said Dan Snare
Throughout the match Westfield tried to implement their style of play, and it showed with the midfield linking with the versatile strike force of Phil Moore & Matt Jackson. This combination of fluent passing created problems for the Horley defence and it wasn’t long before Moore put Westfield ahead. He got on the end of a well-delivered set piece and helped it across the line.
Horley Town got their well-deserved goal just before the half time interval. Striker Richard Wetton got on the end of a loose ball and calmly slotted the ball round goalkeeper Stuart Norman.
After a delay and some squabbling from the Horley bench, attention soon returned the game itself and it nearly saw Westfield run home with the 3 points as they hit the bar, from the rebound Moore, once again in a good position, hit the post and it somewhat summed up the night for Westfield.
Even in the dying embers of the game Horley did have an opportunity themselves to take home the three points. But it was a fine save from the impressive Norman who met the shot with a firm hand, clearing it from danger.
Westfield, who have only lost twice in their last 14 games are back in action this Saturday when they play away from home against Hartley Witney.
Manager Dan Snare has put a message out to his players to remain unbeaten for the rest of the season and is positive this is something his team is capable of doing. He said, “We want to stay unbeaten for the next remaining games and see how high we can get up the table. If we say realistically 14th position or just above is our goal, it is still a massive improvement compared to the start of the season.” Said manager Dan Snare after the 1-1 draw.”
