The magic of the FA Cup always throws up some intriguing ties, and when Aldershot Town and Woking were paired up in the draw a couple of weeks ago, that was certainly the case.
On Saturday the local Surrey derby was played in testing conditions, with a swirling wind and heavy rain throughout the tie.
With both sides seizing on the chance to get their names into the hat for the First Round proper of the FA Cup, it was Aldershot who opened the scoring in the seventh minute when Mo Bettamer turned in a cross from the left hand side. Woking responded on the stroke of half time when Josh Davison was played through on goal and scored into the corner of the net.
With both sides pushing for a winner it was down to Woking substitute Max Kretzschmar to grab the winner fore the Cards with fifteen minutes to go.
In other local football, Sheerwater defeated Frimley Green 2-1 at the Laithwaite in the Combined Counties Premier Division.
Ashley Hitchinson opened the scoring for the hosts before Green levelled. New signing Leon Dadey on his debut grabbed the winner for the Sheers with eight minutes remaining.
Knaphill earned a point on their travels on Saturday with a 1-1 draw at Ascot United. Usman Lalustani grabbed a late equaliser for Knaphill.
Meanwhile, Westfield suffered a 1-0 home loss to Barking on Saturday in the Isthmian League South Central Division. The visitors getting all three points thanks to Isaac Westendorf’s effort on 72 minutes.
Harlequins Women claimed a bonus point victory on Saturday after defeating Exeter Chiefs women 33-14 at Surrey Sports Park on Saturday. The win cemented Quins position at the top of the Alianz Premier 15s table.
