Cards bounce back to winning ways against the Daggers

Woking put their disappointment of Saturday’s 4-0 loss to Chesterfield behind them with a comfortable victory against Dagenham and Redbridge on a wet night in Surrey.

Two first half goals ten minutes apart from Jack Cook and Malachi Napa was enough to see of the visitors from East London.

Cards Manager Alan Dowson made two changes to the side that suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Chesterfield on Saturday.

Dave Tarpey made the starting line up with loan signing Ben Dempsey thrown in from the start.

Dagenham were struck an early blow when prolific striker Paul McCallum went down injured and could take no further part in the contest. The Cards took the game to Dagenham and their early pressure paid off in the 20th minute when a Charlie Cook free kick was whipped into the box and there was Jack Cook to rise above everybody to nod home.

Undeterred by the setback, Craig Ross was called into action for the first time by palming away Sam Deering’s shot. A minute later the visitors were a whisker away from drawing level when Adrian Clifton headed narrowly wide.

It was looking like it wasn’t to be the visitor’s night when they lost another striker through injury when Adrian Clifton limped off.

To make it even worse for the Daggers they conceded a second goal in the 30th minute when the visitor’s custodian Elliot Justham failed to hold on to Malachi Napa’s shot, with the slippery ball slipping through his hands into the net.

The second half continued with the Cards in the ascendancy and almost had a third when Cooper’s shot was parried away. Cooper’s delivery from set pieces was excellent and from another free kick he had Justham frantically clearing from his near post. The former Halifax Town player was at the heart of the midfield, in what was an impressive middle of the park from the hosts.

The remaining part of the second half was professionally controlled by the hosts who were in total control of the match and eventually ran out comfortable winners.
