Woking held by Torquay on a frustrating night for the Cards.

An early goal from Kadell Daniel strung the visitors to life as Courtney Richards and substitute Tyrone Marsh brought the Gulls into the lead but with 5 minutes remaining Dan Holman scored meaning both sides would go home with a point each.

Torquay have only seen one win from their last 12 matches, in that time mangers have departed and players have been appointed. Kevin Nicholson was at the helm and his night didn’t start brightly as Woking found the net early on.

It was Daniel –With his 3rd goal of the season, the tricky winger easily beat Nicholson and curled a wonderful shot into the corner of the Torquay net.

Daniel nearly made it two just before the break, his shot deflected onto the post. Woking went into the half-time interval ahead and player-manager Kevin Nicholson made a change with Louis Bririscoe making way for the speedy Tyrone Marsh, who made a fundamental impact to the game.

Torquay came out of the blocks sharper and more alert. Woking were far too casual and Torquay took full advantage of this, as Courtney Richards drilled a shot into the top of the net.

In the later stages of the match Daniel nearly again produced some quality, his shot curled just past the post from an impressive 25 yards out.

Then there was a penalty appeal from Woking, substitute Burno Andrade was suspected to have been brought down inside the box but referee Richard Martin waved his hands, denying Woking what seemed a blatant penalty.

Short moments later, without any time to digest the first penalty appeal, Torquay got their own. Substitute Marsh broke through the middle of the defence and was brought down by goalkeeper Cole. Marsh then stepped up and scored putting the Gulls ahead for the first time in the match.

Dan Holman celebrates his 6th goal of the season.

However, seven minutes from time Colchester loanee, Dan Holman scored a sublime goal from a Jake Caprice cross. The striker touched up the ball and guided the ball into the empty, unguarded corner of the net.

Torquay could have potentially nicked the match in the end, Marsh done well to get the ball through to Fisher but the striker couldn’t compose himself and drilled well over the bar.

It was a frustrating evening for both sides, but Manager Gary Hill spoke to Radio Woking after the game and called it a “Fair Result”, he said “Over the 90 minutes, it’s a fair result but I think there has been one decision made tonight by the referee which has, without doubt, cost us the game.

Asked about Woking’s penalty claim he said, “I’ve seen some penalty’s given, but that is the most blatant penalty I have seen in years. I can’t understand it.”
