THE VIEW FROM HERE – Carers Week

Sunday 7th June

9am – 12noon

This week we celebrate Carers Week and the vital role that Carers play not just within their families but also in their communities and for the country as a whole. A Caring role can take over your life but there is help available.

9am – Patrick Buckingham joins us from Surrey Young Carers. Carers under the age of 18 are often overlooked yet their lives are filled with extra responsibilities and concerns that other young people could not imagine. Patrick will explain how Surrey Young Carers works to support and enhance the lives of young Carers.   www.surrey-youngcarers.org.uk

10am – Shahin Mohamed is a Carer Support Worker in the Woking area. Her particular remit is to assist people from a BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) background. Shahin discusses the aspects of being a Carer and the support that Carers Support Woking can offer you. There are also several events going on in the locality during Carers Week which are being promoted by CSW. www.carerswoking.co.uk

11am – Sharon and Sylvia Bryden-Stock discuss the various Caring roles they have had in their lives. Sylvia has previously worked as a Care Home Manager whilst Sharon has been a Carer Support Worker and subsequently an Advocate for people with complex needs. Sharon will also explain how Carers (and Service Users) can get involved in shaping the future training of clinical psychologists and social workers.
