In the National League on Saturday, Woking were held to a 1-1 draw by bottom of the table Yeovil Town at the Laithwaite Community Stadium.
The Glovers took the lead on the stroke of half time when Matt Warburton netted. Max Kretzschmar missed a penalty for Woking. Rhys Murpohy also missed a spot kick for the visitors. But with time running out and Yeovil on course for their first league win of the season, up stepped Josh Davison to equalise for the Cards and to bag his fourth goal in five games.
Aldershot Town travelled up to Moss lane to face Altrincham Town and came away with a 2-1 victory.
Goals in either half from Toby Edser and Chike Kandi gave them victory despite Tom Peer’s late strike for the hosts, to give Danny Searle’s men back to back victories in the League.
In other local sport, in basketball Surrey Scorchers suffered a heart-breaking narrow 86-85 loss to Worcester Wolves in Worcester in the BBL Cup.
It was Scorchers opening game of the season and they were so close to pulling of a victory, but a free throw from Wolves Guard Maarten Bouwknecht with only two seconds left in the game was enough for victory.
Captain Tayo Ogedengbe and Skyler White both hit 17 points. Scorchers trailed Wolves by six points at the interval. The hosts took a narrow five-point lead heading into the final quarter.
Ogedengbe tied the game at 85-85 with 14 seconds left. A foul was called on Scorchers Evan Walshe sent Bouwknecht to the free throw line. He put away one of his free throws which was enough to get the win for Worcester.
In rugby, Harlequins Women made it five successive try bonus point victories after completing a comfortable 31-0 win over Sale Sharks Women at the Stoop on Saturday.
At the break Quins found themselves 17-0 up and never looked back to maintain their position at the top of the Allianz Premier 15’s table.
In the men’s version of the game, Harlequins have signed Bedford Blues loosehead prop Joe Wrafter on a short-term deal.
In cricket, Surrey’s Will Jacks will play for Hobart Hurricanes in this year’s Big Bash League. Jacks, will join up with former Surrey coach Michael Di Venuto, who is Assistant Coach of the Hurricanes.
