Robbie Kersley scored twice and a late Jimmy Norman goal helped Knaphill pull through and secure a 3-0 win against Badshot Lea at Redding Way on Tuesday night.

Kersley, captain on the night, performed like a leader and manager Keith Hills reflected on Kersley’s performance and was in full praise of his midfielder, “He was a leader out there, we gave Kersley the armband and he leads by example with or without the armband.”

Knaphill are back to winning ways but despite the strong second half display the hosts did struggle to come alive in the first half. What fundamentally changed this could have been the three changes Hills made in the match; Charlie Postance, Josh Coke and Jimmy Norman – who scored a sublime goal five minutes from time.

“We are very lucky we have 18 -20 good players that are all brilliant. That’s the hardest part of my job now! It’s very difficult to give everyone game time,” he told Radio Woking.

Hills said his substitutes could be key to winning games in the future, “(Jimmy) Norman has been unlucky with injury but is a dead ball specialist and can score from 30 yards out, (Josh) Coke he’s good with his feet and worries defenders and (Charlie) Postance is absolutely brilliant. Making them sorts of changes when you are ahead can certainly get you (further) ahead.”

Knaphill currently sit in 11th position. Hills, personally, has targeted a finish within the top 10, “We haven’t actually given the boys a goal to go for yet, but personally, we’d like to finish in the top 10 this year.”

Knaphill are back in action this Saturday against a very strong Epsom and Ewell side, which Hills feels will be a good test for his team.

“Again, it’s another team fighting for promotion. He added, “We expect to go there and give them a hell of a game.”
